Officer Mike Bires
From the strategic use of social media and the designing of websites, to authoring articles and public speaking engagements, Mike improves companies, organizations and law enforcement agencies use and exposure on the world wide web.
Officer Mike Bires has been a police officer for the past 23 years, having served the people of California with honor, integrity, and pride. After working for three law enforcement agencies in the southern California region, he is now a senior police officer with his current agency. Mike has experience working in assignments such as corrections, patrol, SWAT, bike patrol, university resource officer, and the Field Training Officer program. He is currently assigned to the patrol division.
Training and Certifications
Mike is certified in the use of social media by the California Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), and has received advanced social media training from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Glendale Police Department, Mountain View Police Department, the Federal Emergency Management Association (F.E.M.A.) through the National Disaster Training Center at the University of Hawaii, and the Los Angeles High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area unit.
Mike designed, developed and co-manages his department’s website and social media platforms, which have not only been recognized in the United States, but in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Additionally, Mike has worked with other law enforcement agencies, associations, businesses and individuals on either a consultation or contractual basis, to implement or improve their presence on the web. He has designed and developed over 50 websites in his lifetime.
With over 25 presentations and counting, both the private and law enforcement sectors have benefited from presentations given by Mike on the topic of social media. Some organizations Mike has presented to include:

Mike has authored articles for leading law enforcement publications, such as PoliceOne.com, the International Association of Chiefs Of Police and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute. He wrote an After-Action Review titled “Baptism By Fire,” which documented the Azusa Police Department's use of social media during the 2014 Colby Wildfire which threatened the city of Azusa for 3 days. He has presented webinars for the Law Enforcement Social Media Conference and The Justice Clearinghouse, as well as been a guest on the Hashtag Podcast Show.

GroupsMike is one of the founding members of the second law enforcement social media group in the nation, which is the Southern California Law Enforcement Social Media Group.
AwardsMike has been officially recognized by Congresswoman Grace Napolitano for his commitment to public safety in the law enforcement social media sector. In May of 2016, Mike received his department's Meritorious Service Medal for his work in the development of his department's successful social media and website platforms.
